A MANAGED TIMBER RESOURCE
Spotted Gum is NOT a rainforest timber. The timber we use is grown in Queensland where harvesting is strictly managed by the State Government’s Department of Primary Industry – Forestry Division.
In Queensland, DPI Forestry’s management practices on State land were originally certified in 1996 under the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System. As of mid 2005, all native forests and plantations in Queensland managed by DPI Forestry have been certified by independent certification organisation Det Norske Veritas to the more rigorous and forestry-specific AS 4708 - Australian Forestry Standard. The Australian Forestry Standard is formally recognised under the world's largest certification scheme, the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC).
At Ausgum we play our part by ensuring that we gain maximum usage of the harvested log resource.
ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE
Ausgum's commitment and innovation is demonstrated in:
- Utilisation of maximum portion of the harvested tree
- an additional 30-35% of log can be recovered from the harvested tree. This timber was previously left as waste in the bush to be destroyed, in time, by fire.
- Maximum recovery of sawn product from available log
- Furniture manufacturing uses shorter, thinner pieces of timber, which would otherwise have been ''waste". What was previously a fence paling or offcut is now part of a high quality furniture item
- No tropical rainforests destroyed
- No Orangutans have lost their homes!!!! (Isn't it great...)
- Internationally certified resources
- 100% Australian Manufactured
